Storage Took Over the Agenda: Our Sungrow Seminar in Penang

DIRECT ANSWER On 14 August 2025 we hosted a Sungrow seminar at the Amari Penang Hotel, where Sungrow Asia Pacific presented its latest residential and commercial & industrial battery energy storage systems to installers and EPCCs from across the northern corridor. We put the hardware on a bench rather than on slides — MG5RL and MG6RL residential hybrids at one end, a C&I string inverter at the other, and the Stäubli MC4 connectors that terminate into them in between. |
Why storage led the agenda
Storage was the whole session, and that was not an arbitrary programme choice. Malaysian rooftop economics have moved away from being paid to export and towards being rewarded for what you consume yourself. The moment self-consumption is what pays, a battery stops being an upsell at the end of a quotation and becomes part of the base design.
Every installer in that room was already fielding the question from customers. A good number were still answering it with a quotation for panels. Closing that gap is what the afternoon was for.

What we put on the bench
We brought hardware instead of renders. MG5RL and MG6RL residential hybrids sat at one end of the table, a multi-MPPT commercial string inverter at the other, and the balance of system ran between them.
Laying it out as a ladder was deliberate. Most of the people in that room quote across both ends of it — a terrace rooftop on Monday, a light commercial job on Thursday — and seeing the range in one continuous line is how you learn where it steps. A datasheet will not do that for you, and neither will a slide.

The Stäubli stand beside the inverter tables — genuine MC4 connectors within sight of the units they terminate into.
Why the connectors were on the same table
Because a residential hybrid installation fails on the DC side far more often than it fails at the inverter, and cross-mated connectors are the most common single reason. Standing a genuine Stäubli MC4 next to the unit it terminates into makes that argument in about four seconds.
It is also the practical case for buying the chain from one supplier. We stock the connector, the cable and the inverter, so the DC side arrives matched rather than assembled from three sources and hoped for the best.

Who was in the room
Residential and small-commercial installers from Penang, Kedah and the northern corridor — the people quoting homeowner jobs weekly and taking the call when something trips at eight in the evening. Sungrow answered the product questions and we answered the supply ones, which is roughly the reason we run these sessions jointly rather than separately.
Frequently asked questions
Does InverPower run seminars outside the Klang Valley?
Yes. This session was held in Penang specifically for northern-region installers, and we run sessions in other states through the year. Contact the team to be added to the trade invitation list.
Is the Sungrow residential range held in local stock?
Yes. As Sungrow Preferred Distributor in Malaysia we hold the residential hybrid range in local stock rather than ordering it to demand.
Can installers get sizing support after the seminar?
Yes. Pre-sales consultation is part of what we do — send the roof, the load profile and the timeline and our technical team will work through the combination with you before you quote.
Are these events open to homeowners?
No. They are trade sessions for EPCCs and installers. We supply the trade and we do not design or install systems ourselves.
